Spring & Wood Element Workshop 20 hours
May 9 and 10, 2020 - Bath, UK
During this weekend workshop you will learn about the 5 Elements of Nature, according to Chinese Medicine, diving deeper into the Wood Element, associated with the season of Spring. You will also learn how to apply this knowledge into your Yin Yoga practice, exploring the poses that support this Element, so that you can tap into your own healing powers and bring balance to body, mind and self.
Spring in Chinese Medicine
Spring invites us to plant new seeds and ideas, start new projects and blossom into who we truly are. Wood Element, therefore, represents the energy of growth. It’s also about vision, planning and decision making, essential for creative change. This is a powerful Element, that once in balance, allows us to remain flexible but engaged. After all, if we hold ourselves too rigidly, we will break and crumble. If we are too loose and wobbly, like a poorly rooted tree, there is no growth and real potential for change.
Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a unique practice in the sense that it helps us balance out our ‘yang’ [active] lifestyle and yoga practice with ‘yin’ [calming] energy. The Yin practice is supported by the Chinese 5 Elements approach to life, which touches every aspect of our body, mind and emotions.

What to expect
During this workshop, you will have the opportunity to experience the Yin Yoga practice thru the lenses of the 5 Elements of Nature, according to Chinese Medicine, and also to learn the basics of the main pillars of this holistic healing modality: The Yin & Yang Theory, Chi and the main energy pathways (meridians) of the body.
By understanding these concepts and how they function, you will gain a basic knowledge of how to use the 5 Elements Yin Yoga practice to support optimal health, removing stagnation, promoting the free flow of energy, as well as clearing the mind and encouraging stillness and mindfulness.
As we explore the Wood Element, we will look at its main characteristics, organs, energy pathways and associated emotions. We will also explore how to use Yin Yoga to bring this Element into balance, breaking down the Wood asanas, how to perform them safely, their modifications and the use of props.
